Medaram is a tribal village where a popular tribal festival called Sammakka – Sarakka Jathara is held biennially. This Jathara is considered as one of the largest tribal festivals of the world. According to the legend, the main deity(s) of the Sammakka Saralamma temple are two brave women who stood up for their community and its betterment. They became martyrs in the battle with the Kakatiyas. The Koya (tribal) community constructed the temple for them at a small tribal village called Medaram, as a token of gratitude.
